Several regularly create and conduct seminars and workshops for businesses, professional organizations, colleges and universities.
Quality of their expertise is validated by hundreds of local, regional, national and international advertising and marketing awards. All have served as American Advertising Federation (AAF) judges in numerous competitions; one was involved in the development of SUMMIT International Creative Awards, another was Vice President of AAF. Several are listed in the prestigious “Who’s Who In Advertising in the United States” and “Who’s Who In Advertising Worldwide.”
SHELLEY ANDERSON Partner
Founder of Pro Media, media buying component of The Marketing Deli, Shelley’s experience and abilities in media planning and placement are unparalleled.
She served as Media Planner/Buyer at Phillips-Ramsey for the San Diego Zoo, WD-40, Daiwa Golf and Fishing Tackle, Hewlett-Packard, Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, Ocean Garden Products, Solar Turbines and other major clients.
She was Account Supervisor/Media Director at Arnold Buck Advertising, working on Home Federal S&L real estate, US Home, Partners Real Estate Network and Creative Nail Design. Establishing Pro Media in 1988, her accounts included Alvarado Hospital, CalTrans, Coast Federal Bank, Cox Cable San Diego, City of San Diego “Think Blue”, San Diego Unified Port District, Scripps Clinic, McMillin Communities, National University, San Diego Cable Co-Op and San Diego Gas & Electric.
The Marketing Deli’s media division utilizes powerful, state-of-the-art ad agency buying software and digital media platforms. This ensures the quickest and most accurate project completion, multi-media analysis, thorough examination of options to prepare for buys and post-buy evaluations.
Shelley places local, regional and national media (including Spanish and ethnic media) for consumer and business-to-business clients in digital and traditional media. As a founding partner of The Marketing Deli, she also serves in account management and creative functions.
J HAL HODGSON Partner
In four+ decades of well-rounded experience – from local to international — Hal has moved products in nearly every category, in an illustrious career that has him listed since 1982 in the prestigious “Who’s Who in Advertising in America” and “Who’s Who in Advertising Worldwide”.
He is founding partner of The Marketing Deli, overseeing client management and all creative efforts.
Hal was an Account Executive at Phillips-Ramsey, San Diego’s largest agency, working on Jack-in-the-Box, Travelodge, and the San Diego Zoo; and Account Group Supervisor at Hawaii’s largest agency, Fawcett-McDermott in Honolulu, where he handled Sheraton Hotels Hawai’i-Pacific, Hawai’i Visitor’s Bureau, United Airlines (Pacific) and Aloha Airlines — before returning to San Diego to form his own agency. Special consulting projects included the national launch of Jimmy Dean Sausage, Pontiac Firebird, Chevrolet Camaro, and California Beef Council. He personally consulted with Ray Kroc of McDonald’s for 5 ½ years and Colonel Harland Sanders of KFC.
Also President of Aloha Productions since 1982, he was one of three key creative innovators of the highly successful, award-winning “JEEPSHOTS” television and radio campaigns, which took Jeep to the forefront nationally in sport utility vehicle sales.
Hal has produced nearly 2,000 memorable music scores and jingles. He has earned awards on all levels, including ADDYs, Clios, ANDYs and Golden Lions for print, radio, TV and music and the Time-Life International Photo Award. Hal judged the American Advertising Federation (AAF) national ADDY awards, 113 AAF competitions across the country, and the International Summit Creative Awards.
FRANK BLOSSOM Creative, Strategist
Creative direction, branding and copywriting at several major national advertising agencies included Senior Creative Director at Leo Burnett (Chicago), D’Arcy (Chicago) and Nobel & Associates (Springfield, MO).
Coupled with strategic thinking, his unique creative focus earned numerous awards and accolades for clients such as Anheuser-Busch, Peter Pan Peanut Butter, Sears, Mattel, Clearasil, VISA, Camay, Oldsmobile, Tyson Foods, Southwestern Bell and Johnsonville Brats.
Awards include “Best of Year” four times for Kellogg’s cereals and Maytag’s “Lonely Repairman”, voted one of “100 Best Ever” television commercials.
In addition to consulting, Frank is a professor of communications-advertising at Grand Valley State University, Grand Rapids, Michigan and was a Regional Director for the American Advertising Federation.
Frank is the founder-owner and director of The Polishing Center, where future ad creatives work and study with an impressive group of seasoned professionals.
CAROL REES Creative, Strategist
Offers four decades of national major account and product experience, including Proctor & Gamble, Amour Foods, 7-Up, Anheuser Busch, Monsanto and several leading banking institutions.
As a Senior Account/Creative Director for D’Arcy Advertising (St. Louis, MO), Carol won the Cannes Film Festival “Golden Palm” for Busch Beer, and the International Film & TV Festival for Pet Foods’ “Chow-Chow-Chow” campaign. She has built business for several Fortune 500 firms, and led Western Savings from $340 million to $10 billion in less than a decade.
Carol has served as National Marketing Supervisor of the American Heart Association, was on the Board of Directors of the Financial Institution Marketing Association and President of American Marketing Association-Arizona division. She owned a marketing agency in Scottsdale for 10 years, specializing in new product development and retail product marketing. Currently Executive Director of the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation at Taliesin West –Scottsdale, Carol directs the Arizona affiliate of our agency.
Carol is recognized as a pioneer in employing the political demographic analysis method in marketing strategy.
ARCHIE JOSEPH THORNTON Strategist
International business is Archie’s forte. He began his advertising career with J Hal Hodgson at Hawaii’s largest ad agency, then joined a leading Kansas City agency where he supervised major programs for McDonald’s, and pioneered development of McDonald’s “Happy Meal” product.
From there he joined the H.D. Lee Company as International Director of Advertising for Lee Riders, Lee Jeans and Lee Collections western apparel.
Returning to Hawai’i, Archie became Managing Director at Ogilvy & Mather-Hawai’i, supervising General Foods-World Trade. He transferred to Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide where he was International Management Director-Los Angeles with global responsibilities for American Express, Hawai’i Visitors & Convention Bureau and Hawaiian Airlines. Currently he is involved in international business development while continuing his association with The Marketing Deli.
MICHAEL KNAPSTEIN Creative, Strategist
Michael’s career began as Creative Director for TAM Advertising, a Madison, WI agency specializing in financial services and retail consumer advertising.
Then he embarked on a 30-year career with Waldbillig & Besteman, Madison’s leading agency, eventually becoming President. He is a sspecialist in brand development through the art and science of integrated marketing communications. He served blue-chip B2B and B2C clients in financial services and other industries. Clients included CUNA (Credit Unions of North America), Honeywell, Kimberly-Clark Corporation, Lands’ End, Louis Rich, Northwestern Mutual Insurance, and Oscar Mayer.
Advertising awards include American Advertising Federation (AAF) Silver Medal Award, AAF National Club Achievement Awards, AAF ADDY Awards (Local and District,) and Business Marketing Association B2 Awards for Honeywell.
Other awards: Business/Professional Advertising Association Bell Awards, International Association of Business Communicators “Pacesetter” Awards, Telly Awards and Summit Creative Awards.
He served on the board of directors for AAF, AAF National Board of Directors, International ADDY Awards Board of Directors and Madison Advertising Federation Board of Directors.
In addition to consulting with The Marketing Deli, Michael is an internationally recognized fine-art photographer. His work has received numerous national and international awards, and has been widely published and exhibited through a variety of solo, juried and group exhibitions around the world.
